The world is to notice the first HIV killing condom. This is designed by Australian bio-tech firm Starpharma, to kill the HIV virus and tackle sexually transmitted infections. It is called VivaGel. The gel will reduce the risk of pregnancy also.
Starpharma, producer of the gel has partnered with Ansell which is also responsible for producing around 70% of Australia's condom market.
The VivaGel condom contains VivaGel in the lubricant. Recent test shows that the gel is effective at deactivating 99.9% of HIV, herpes and papilloma virus cases.
Good news is that this condom could be available to buy within months since it has received approval by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.
